The Rivers I Came From

My visit to the marshes of Southern Iraq in 2018 was a return to a place woven into my childhood — I was born in Amarah, near these waters, though I left too young to remember them. In this landscape where the Tigris and Euphrates merge into one shimmering expanse, I encountered families rebuilding their lives amid hardship, and a world that seemed suspended in time. These paintings reflect the fragile beauty, resilience, and layered history of the marshlands — a place once called the Garden of Eden.
